THE BIG EEP (2.16s)
by Dominic Matar
New York, 2011
Alarms used
6-tone car alarm, Fire Truck and Police Siren.
The track in a sentence...
A playful and atmospheric take on a futuristic film noir.
How he did it
Dominic used alarms in three ways. One way was to map the alarm sounds into samplers. Alarm sounds were also processed and twisted into sound effects and rhythmic elements. And finally, unedited "pure" alarm sounds were used to punctuate and break down the phases.
He found the main challenge was converting raw alarms into tools that could be used to create melody, rhythm and ambience.
Dominic is currently working on a new album and his first feature-film soundtrack.
